PillWheel is not a medical app. It is a personal organization and reminder tool. It does not provide medical advice, diagnose conditions, interpret prescriptions, or recommend dosages. Always consult your pharmacist or healthcare provider for medical decisions.
What PillWheel Is
PillWheel is a personal medication organization, reminder, and archiving application. It is designed to help you:
- Keep a personal record of your medications for organizational purposes
- Create custom reminders to support your existing medication routine
- Track pill counts and receive low-supply alerts
- Store prescription documents for personal reference
- Organize provider and pharmacy contact information
- Access educational information about medications from public databases
What PillWheel Is NOT
PillWheel is not and does not function as any of the following:
- A medical device — PillWheel has not been approved or cleared by the FDA or any regulatory authority as a medical device
- A source of medical advice — nothing in PillWheel constitutes professional medical advice, and it should not be used as such
- A prescription interpretation tool — PillWheel does not interpret, verify, or validate prescription information
- A dosage recommendation tool — PillWheel does not recommend, calculate, or verify appropriate dosages
- A diagnosis tool — PillWheel does not diagnose medical conditions or suggest treatments
- A replacement for your pharmacist or doctor — PillWheel is not a substitute for professional healthcare guidance
- An emergency response system — PillWheel should not be relied upon in a medical emergency
- A clinical decision support system — PillWheel is not designed for clinical or institutional use
OCR Scanning Limitations
PillWheel includes a bottle label scanner and prescription archive that use optical character recognition (OCR) to extract text from images. You must understand the following limitations:
- OCR technology is imperfect and regularly makes errors, especially with small fonts, handwriting, medical terminology, or partially obscured text
- Medication names, strengths, dosage instructions, and other details extracted by OCR may be incorrect, incomplete, reversed, or entirely missing
- OCR-extracted text is provided for convenience only — it is not verified, not interpreted, and not confirmed as accurate by PillWheel
- You must manually and carefully verify every single field extracted by OCR against your physical prescription label or prescription document before saving anything
- You must confirm any questions about dosage, instructions, or medication details with your pharmacist before following any information displayed in the app
- Incorrect medication information — particularly incorrect dosages or instructions — can cause serious harm
⚠️ Never rely solely on OCR-extracted text. Always verify medication name, strength, form, and instructions against your physical label. When in doubt, ask your pharmacist.
Medication Information Sources
PillWheel may display educational information about medications sourced from public databases including RxNorm and DailyMed (National Library of Medicine). This information is:
- Educational and general in nature — not specific to your personal situation
- Not updated in real time and may not reflect the most current drug information
- Not a substitute for the patient information leaflet provided with your prescription
- Not medical advice, and should not influence your medication decisions without consulting a healthcare provider
Reminder and Notification Limitations
PillWheel sends medication reminders based on schedules you configure. You understand and agree that:
- Reminders may be delayed or not delivered due to device settings, Do Not Disturb mode, low battery, network issues, or operating system restrictions
- PillWheel does not guarantee that reminders will fire at the exact configured time
- You are solely responsible for taking your medications as prescribed regardless of whether a reminder is received
- Reminder schedules in PillWheel do not constitute a medical prescription or dosing schedule — they are organizational reminders only
- All reminder schedules must be created manually by you and should reflect the instructions on your prescription label
No Doctor-Patient Relationship
Use of PillWheel does not create a doctor-patient, pharmacist-patient, or any other professional healthcare relationship between you and PillWheel or its developers. PillWheel is not a healthcare provider.
Emergency Situations
PillWheel is not designed for use in medical emergencies. If you or someone you know is experiencing a medical emergency:
- Call 911 (US) or your local emergency number immediately
- Do not rely on PillWheel to identify medications, dosages, or medical information in an emergency
- Contact Poison Control (1-800-222-1222 in the US) for medication overdose or poisoning
The Emergency Card feature in PillWheel is provided as a convenience for situations where you need quick access to your medication list. It is not verified, not reviewed by healthcare professionals, and should not be treated as an authoritative medical record.
Assumption of Risk
By using PillWheel, you acknowledge that:
- You have read and understand this Medical Disclaimer

Consult a Healthcare Professional
For any questions about your medications, dosages, schedules, side effects, drug interactions, or health conditions, always consult a qualified healthcare professional — your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse practitioner. They are your trusted source for medical guidance. PillWheel is a tool to support your organizational needs, not a replacement for professional care.
